Luckily for me, I love documentation. Now this is good because documentation is a very necessary thing for programming projects in general. It often never gets done, and I’ll admit I was a bit slack about documenting WikiStudent in the past, despite claiming to love it. Time was / is always the issue!
But now I know it has to be done, and done well, so I’ve created several docs that serve different purposes:
-
a database (I have one table so far, of Unisa modules and everything that pertains to them, such as module name, prescribed book…)
-
a spreadsheet (for arbitrary things like stat logs, and stuff that doesn’t need to be in a database)
-
a word procesing doc (where I record all my ideas, as well as site modifications & login details)
-
an A4 book (for visual scribbles, like layouts of Web pages and the newsletter design)
This is a good start, and I know this is going to help stacks. Documentation is never seen by your website users, but it will at least give me satisfaction and make site admin easier in the long run.
